JOHN PEASLEE Obituary

PEASLEE--John Robert. Writer and filmmaker John Peaslee has died. He was 73. A Peabody and Humanitas Prize winner, Mr. Peaslee's career spanned more than 40 years and several genres. Originally from New York, John began in news and documentaries, first at Newsweek, and later for legendary producer Alvin H. Perlmutter. In 1985, John and his writing and producing partner Judd Pillot moved to Los Angeles. Together they enjoyed a 35 year partnership and successful career in TV comedy, writing and running such shows as Coach, Mad About You, Something So Right, According To Jim, Just Shoot Me, and Liv and Maddie. In recent years John had become a champion of childrens' literacy, volunteeringing as a mentor in Los Angeles schools. John passed away of natural causes, peacefully, at home, having spent the day surrounded by friends and family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Dava Waite Peaslee, daughter Rebecca, and brother Jim. In lieu of services, the family asks that you donate to your local animal charity, contribute to Alcoholics Anonymous (lacoaa.org/contribute.php) or take a long hike in your favorite spot and think of John walking beside you.
